Registration

The 2024 session of ALA Louisiana Girls State will take place from Sunday, June 16, 2024 through Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Louisiana Girls State is a program with a long history of building connections, developing leaders, and educating younger generations on the duties, privileges, and responsibilities of being an American citizen. Please email us directly with any program-related questions.

Candidates should be in excellent academic standing with their school, interested in government and current events, and show strong leadership abilities. The program is open to students who are in the summer between their junior and senior year. They must have completed their junior year and not started their senior year at the time of the program.

If your school does not participate, is not familiar with Louisiana Girls State, or has already selected their delegates, fill out the interest form below and we will review your interest as a delegate with the program upon submission.

Registration will be open on February 1, 2024. However, dates may vary depending on districts.

Scholarships & Girls Nation

Girls Nation

The deadline for Girls Nation applications is Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. No late applications will be accepted after this date. Girls Nation is scheduled from July 20-27, 2024 in Washington D.C. On Thursday, June 20, Staff will contact those delegates who have advanced to in-person interviews. Only those delegates who advance to in-person interviews will be contacted. The two delegates selected for Girls Nation will be announced at the closing ceremony. The application link and sample legislative bill instructions can be found below. A legislative bill is required to be written on an original topic that is of interest to the delegate based on the outline provided. The bill topic and debate of the topic will be weighted heavily in the scoring for the two Girls Nation candidates. Information on ALA Girls Nation can be found HERE.

Samsung Scholarship

Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. As of 2019, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $6.5 million in college scholarships to 2,266 applicants since its inception in 1996.
 

Samsung scholarships may be used for undergraduate studies and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Winners are selected according to academic record, involvement in school and community service.

  • Ten National Scholars receive $10,000 each (two from each region)

  • Ten National Runners-Up receive $5,000 each (two from each region)

  • Remaining Department Finalists receive $1,250 each guaranteed

 

The deadline for Samsung Scholarship applications is Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be reviewed during the program, and the delegate selected to receive $1,250 will be announced at the closing ceremony. The delegate also gets the opportunity to advance to the national round with other delegates from the United States for scholarships between $5,000-$10,000. The application link can be found below.

FAQ

  • Is it just a government camp or will we have different experiences?
    LAGS is a unique and exciting government-in-action learning program that guides young women to become knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy and patriotism. However, it's more about the relationships you develop and the memories you make.
  • What do I wear the week of the program?
    You will be given LAGS t-shirts to wear each day. We reccommend comfortable yet appropriate bottoms and shoes to go with it.
  • What should I expect?
    You should expect to develop leadership skills, learn more about the local, state and national government, meet lifelong friends, learn how to impact the world, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
  • How do I apply?
    Information regarding our application and registration process can be found under the "Delegates" tab.
  • Where is Girls State?
    Louisiana Girls State takes place on the campus of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
  • Can my parents attend the program to see my accomplishments?
    Parents can attend the closing ceremony on Saturday, June 22. During the closing ceremony, we will announce awards and go over everything that our delegates accomplished during our program session.
  • When does delegate registration open?
    Registration will open on February 1, 2024 at 12:00am and close on May 1, 2024 at 11:59pm. No late registrations will be accepted. Registration for ALA Louisiana Girls State requires a Medical History Form, Anti-Hazing Form, Code of Conduct Form and Online Registration Form for all delegates. Registration can be completed entirely though the online registration link. Once the link is submitted, registration is confirmed with our program.
  • How do I get to ALA Louisiana Girls State at Northwestern State University?
    Transportation from District 1, District 2, District 4, District 8 are through personal vehicles. District 3, District 5, District 6 and District 7 will be determined by the District Procurement Chair. Districts are determined by the Parish of your school. Please see our 'About' tab for contact information for your District Procurement.
