Congratulations on being selected to represent your school as a 2022 Louisiana Girls State Citizen. Welcome to the family!
**This registration and password-protected link can be obtained through your school Counselor or Girls State contact. Only those delegates selected by their schools have received this link. If you were not selected by your school or unsure if your school participates, please proceed to the Interest Form below and complete it for consideration.
The 2022 session of ALA Louisiana Girls State will take place from Sunday, June 19, 2022 through Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. The week requires walking through NSU's campus to various buildings as well as going up and down stairs to participate in different activities. We are committed to bringing an engaging and exciting experience with new technological advancements and activities to our 2022 delegates.
Candidates should be in excellent academic standing with their school, keenly interested in government and current events and show strong leadership abilities. The program will be open
in 2022 to students who are in the summer between their Junior and Senior year. They must have completed their Junior year and not started their Senior year curriculum.
If your school does not participate, not familiar with Louisiana Girls State or has already selected their delegates, fill out the interest form below and we will review your interest as a delegate with the program upon submission.
Registration will be open from February 1, 2022 to May 20, 2022.
Scholarships & Girls Nation
The deadline for Girls Nation applications is Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. No late applications will be accepted after this date. On Wednesday, June 22nd in the morning, Staff will contact those delegates who have qualified for in-person interviews. In-person interviews will take place on Wednesday, June 23rd and Thursday, June 24th. The two delegates selected for Girls Nation will be announced at the closing ceremony. The application link and sample legislative bill instructions can be found below. A legislative bill is required to be written on an original topic that is of interest to the delegate based on the outline provided. The bill topic and debate of the topic will be weighted heavily in the scoring for the two Girls Nation candidates. Information on ALA Girls Nation can be found HERE.
Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship Program established a series of scholarships derived from interest and other income from the principal amount. As of 2019, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $6.5 million in college scholarships to 2,266 applicants since its inception in 1996.
Samsung scholarships may be used for undergraduate studies and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Winners are selected according to academic record, involvement in school and community service.
Ten National Scholars receive $10,000 each (two from each region)
Ten National Runners-Up receive $5,000 each (two from each region)
Remaining Department Finalists receive $1,250 each guaranteed
The deadline for Samsung Scholarship applications is Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Applications will be reviewed during the program, and the delegate selected to receive $1,250 will be announced at the closing ceremony. The delegate also gets the opportunity to advance to the national round with other delegates from the United States for scholarships between $5,000-$10,000. The application link can be found below.
