Hi, my name is Camryn Landry and I am the LA Girls State SPC for 2025!
A little about me: I am from Lafayette, Louisiana, and I attend Ascension Episcopal School in Sugar Mill Pond. I'm a theater student with participation in over 20 productions! I have a passion for the stage and love sharing my talents with others. I'm involved in my school's leadership team serving as publicity senior class leader, secretary of NEHS, vice president of NHS, BETA club member, school ambassador, and over 100 hours of community service!
Let's get back to the Girls State. When I arrived at Girls State I was put into Sabine Parish and Point Coupee City. I was also in the Federalist Party and a part of the Senate.
Now to how I became SPC — state party chairwoman. The first thing that happens when you arrive at Girls State is that you vote on city and parish offices. I ran for Parish communication officer and was elected! After I was elected for this parish position we had the opportunity to run for a party position. I ran for PPC which stands for parish party chairwoman. I ran against two other amazing very capable young women but was ultimately elected as the federalist PPC. The PPC is responsible for running the parish party elections which served as for the rest of the elections.
Later that night all the PPCs and CCWs, which stands for campaign chairwoman, went into a room to learn all the rules and regulations for being a PPC. All PPCs are the only people that have the opportunity to run for a position called SPC which is a state position that runs the party elections.
I honestly was not planning on running for this position, but earlier that day we had a guest speaker who mentioned “running through the door.” I decided that this was my sign to run through the door and run for this office.
I presented my speech to a room of twelve PPCs and CCWs and the election process began! The Federalist Party went through a total of six elections until a simple majority was met. I won the SPC election with eight out of twelve votes. I was beyond honored to be chosen for this position and was determined to give it my absolute all.
The SPC is in charge of running the state party elections. The next day we had a primary election, and I conducted the election in order to elect the candidate for the convention which would be voted on the following day. Fast forward to the convection elections! I ran these elections to elect the candidate to represent the Federalist Party. Running these elections was so incredibly fun, and it was such an amazing experience! I recommend everyone to run for SPC!
