LAGS Code: Be in The Know

“MUSTERRR!” If yk, yk! Imagine it’s 7:45 in the morning and all you hear is banging on the door with the famous Girls State word. As many would not know, “muster” is our wake up call to get out of our rooms every morning and start our eventful day. We then get into our two by twos and as we say in Amite Parish, “fins up!” These two military grade lines help to insure no citizen is left behind as we walk to get from place to place. For extra precaution, we put our hands up and connect with our partners to help the counselors get a head count. As soon as we hear the yell of “46 out of 46” from our four amazing CCs, we are in the clear to start our trek around campus. City Counselors, also known as CCs are our first level of support. We also love our Parish Counselors, known as PCs, that help guide the CCs for the week. Can’t forget about SCs, Senior Counselors and PAs which are Program Associates.

We the party people! Party day is the one theme day to let the powder blues rest and support your Nats or Feds. Nationalists (aka Nats) rep the green, while Federalists (aka Feds) rep the purple. What is powder blues you may ask? Well, this famous color can be found with the Girls State logo and associated with our citizen shirts that we wear every day. Don’t fret, our shirts are cleaned every night. We are so appreciative of our Auxiliary Women more known as Parish Dorm Moms. These ladies represent the American Legion Auxiliary which are the sponsors that make this program possible.

1,2 … you know what to do!! There are many chants, stomps, and dances that keep the hype all week long. One of our favorites is the food song for which we sing before every meal. Dear Abby, you have to be one of our most enjoyed songs from the SCs.

Last but not least, our favorite slang word… LAGS! Louisiana Girls State is the best in all the land. These traditions, along with many other factors, are what shape Girls State into the exciting experience it is.
